City of Smiths Station to hold MLK Jr. Clean-Up Day on Jan. 25

The City of Smiths Station will honor the legacy and service of Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. through its annual “MLK Citywide Clean-Up Day” on Jan. 25.
This initiative is open to Smiths Station residents of all ages.
Prior to the cleanup which begins at 9 a.m. Eastern time, Mayor Bubba Copeland and Council Place 2 Member and Mayor Pro Tem Morris Jackson will hold a short press conference to kick off the day’s festivities.
Afterward, groups will be formed and split up to clean roadsides within the city limits. All necessary supplies will be provided.
The event will end at approximately noon, and all volunteers will be welcomed back to the Smiths Station Government Center for lunch.
“This is an event that we here at the city of Smiths Station look forward to every year. It not only gives us a chance to clean and enhance our city’s roadways, but to honor and acknowledge the impact that Dr. King has made not only on the African American community, but our city, state and country as a whole,” said Mayor F.L. “Bubba” Copeland.
